The T’s Government Relations Director Monique Pegues dies

 

 FORT WORTH (January 29, 2010) – Monique Pegues, director of government relations for The T (the Fort Worth Transportation Authority) une

xpectedly passed away on January 22.Pegues directed the private sector lobbyists in Washington D.C. and Texas and managed local/regional government and community relations, grants administration and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise efforts of The T.

“We are deeply saddened by Monique’s tragic, untimely death,” said Dick Ruddell, president of The T.  “She was an outstanding performer throughout her 11-year career with The T and made such a difference in the lives of those around her, professionally and personally.  She had a passion for transit and was well respected by all our government officials.”

A 1994 honors graduate of the University of North Texas, Pegues began her career with The T in 1999 in the employer services department, followed by promotions to community outreach liaison in the marketing department in 2002 and to grants and DBE administrator in 2004, and was responsible for the agency’s Triennial Review.  She was appointed director of government relations in 2008.

She served as president of the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar in 2008 and 2009 and is a former chair of the North Central Texas Regional Certification Agency. She was current vice chair of the Surface Transportation Technical Committee of the North Central Texas Council of Governments, a member of Leadership Fort Worth Class of 2006, and president of The T’s chapter of Toast Masters International in 2008-2009.

Pegues was recognized in Mass Transit Magazine’s 2009 Top 40 under 40.  

A community volunteer, Pegues was on the board of directors of the Salvation Army. She participated in Meals on Wheels and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, where she became a long-term mentor of a junior high student. 

            She is survived by her husband, Calvin, three young sons and a large extended family of friends and associates.  A memorial fund for her children’s education has been established.
