Cong. Moore Named SWTA 2010 Legislator of the Year Award


U.S. CONGRESSMAN DENNIS MOORE NAMED

SOUTHWEST TRANSIT ASSOCIATION LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR

Washington, DC (March 16, 2010) – Dennis Moore, U.S. Congressman, 3rd District of Kansas, was honored by the South West Transit Association (SWTA) with the organization’s 2009 Legislator of the Year Award.

The SWTA Legislator of the Year award recognizes a member of the U.S. House or Senate who has significantly advanced the interest of public transportation in the previous year.

The award was presented to Congressman Moore at the annual SWTA legislative briefing breakfast in Washington, DC on March 16.

Congressman Moore was nominated by the Kansas Public Transit Association for his role in supporting and assisting public transit efforts in Kansas. Congressman Moore has been a long-time supporter of public transportation efforts throughout Kansas, especially in Lawrence, Johnson County and Kansas City, KS.

R.E. “Tuck” Duncan, Executive Director of the Kansas Public Transit Association, said, “Dennis is retiring this year, and we are going to miss his continued support for transit in Kansas. He has been a strong voice for our needs and efforts in Congress and that voice will be hard to replace.”

There are more than 180 transit providers in Kansas providing quality public transportation services to meet the mobility needs of clients through the fixed route and demand responsive services.
