Fort Bend County (TX) offers Public Transportation for Veterans

​Military veterans living in Missouri City will soon be able to benefit from a pilot program provided by the Fort Bend County Veteran Services Office for bus service to the VA Medical Center in Houston.

Fort Bend County, TX-The Fort Bend County Veteran Services Office in coordination with the County’s Public Transportation Department is pleased to announce a pilot program which will provide bus service for Veterans needing to travel to the VA Medical Center in Houston. Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert said, “Many veterans in our county rely on public transportation to access necessary medical treatments and they need service to veteran’s facilities. This is a terrific opportunity for Fort bend County to step up and serve those who have served us.”

Fort Bend County Veterans Service Officer Clyde Jacks commented, “I am confident that there are many veterans who reside in Fort Bend County that will recognize and utilize this important program. Fort Bend County is excited about this program and embraces the opportunity to help those that need us.” The Veteran’s Transportation Service, sponsored by the county, will be offered as a 6-month trial program. Continuation of the program after the trial period will be dependent upon utilization.

The pilot program is scheduled to begin on June 17, 2008. The service will be provided every Tuesday (excluding holidays) with first drop-off at the veteran’s hospital scheduled for 8:00 a.m. and last pick-up from the medical center at 5:00 p.m. Buses will be handicap accessible. A fare of $1.00 per person each way is required. The bus will pick up passengers at either the Rosenberg Annex located at 4520 Reading Road in Rosenberg, TX or the Sugar Land Annex located at 12550 Emily Court, Sugar Land, TX. Passengers can schedule a trip as late as one business day before their appointment or as early as one month prior to their appointment.
