It’s almost goTime! VIA’s goMobile app launches summer 2017

SAN ANTONIO (Texas) — VIA Metropolitan Transit’s new mobile app will change the game for riders by putting convenient planning and purchasing power in the palm of their hand.

goMobile, VIA’s new mobile ticketing and trip-planning app, will allow bus and van patrons to purchase fares using their mobile device, and activate them when they are ready to ride. The digital ticketing process expedites boarding and reduces the need for cash and transfer cards. The app’s trip-planning feature provides bus arrival information to help riders plan more easily and accurately.

The goMobile app is the next in a series of technological advancements VIA has introduced to enhance passenger amenities and modernize the agency’s programs and services. In 2015, VIA was the first major transit agency in the nation to offer free systemwide 4G LTE WiFi in all of its facilities and fleet. The WiFi service has allowed VIA to support modern amenities, including real-time bus information aboard vehicles, all-digital library access, and goMobile.

“The goMobile app is part of VIA’s ongoing investment in innovation, and part of several recent initiatives that will help transform the rider experience,” VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt said. “Advancements such as these enhance passenger convenience as VIA provides access to opportunity and connects our community.”

The goMobile app is free to download for Apple and Android devices. Fares and passes can be purchased using bank cards or credit cards. The app was designed in partnership with Moovel, a transit technology provider, and features local landmarks and iconography that become animated once the ticket is activated. Passengers will simply show their phone screen to the operator when boarding.

The VIA goCard, a reloadable smart card, debuts in the fall and will offer tap-and- go boarding, another convenient option for passengers on the go.
