NAIPTA CEO & General Manager Wins Statewide Transit Award

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (April 18, 2018) –Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA) CEO & General Manager Jeff Meilbeck was recognized as the “Transit Individual of the Year” at the 2018 Arizona Transit Association (AzTA) and Arizona Department of Transportation’s (ADOT) Excellence Awards.

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, April 10 during the AzTA / ADOT Annual Transit Conference in Tucson, AZ.

Starting with Coconino County’s Pine Country Transit in 1998, Meilbeck has been at the helm of Flagstaff transit for more than 20 years. Later this year, he will retire from NAIPTA as the only CEO the organization has ever had.

Under Meilbeck’s leadership, Pine Country Transit transitioned into NAIPTA, and grew from 100,000 riders a year to more than 2 million in 2017. During his career, Meilbeck has served in leadership roles in state and national transit organizations, and has become a leading voice for the small urban transit systems. He led three successful ballot initiatives to secure and increase NAIPTA’s funding, and oversaw the implementation of the region’s first Bus Rapid Transit project with the Mountain Link route.

“Jeff put Flagstaff transit on the map, developing a system known for innovation, reliability, fiscal management, and continual growth,” said NAIPTA Board Chair and Flagstaff City Councilman Scott Overton. “This recognition is a tribute to the legacy he will leave behind, and the strong foundation he has built for Flagstaff’s transit future.”

The Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority is the transit agency in northern Arizona operating the Mountain Line, Mountain Lift and Mountain Link systems in Flagstaff.
