SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 16, 2015) — The Mayor’s Fitness Council has recognized VIA Metropolitan Transit with a second place award in the Veg Out SA! Employer-Based Challenge. This city-wide competition encouraged local employers to promote healthier foods at their worksites. VIA participated in the Veg Out SA! challenge by providing an on-site farmer’s market last March and April and kicking off Fiesta with an employee “Fruit Fiesta” to promote healthy eating. VIA received $600 by HEB as part of the award to continue to promote consumption of fruits and vegetables by the agency’s employees. VIA promotes employee wellness through a dedicated program call VIA Thrive, which includes such programs as onsite fitness classes, cardio equipment, activity-based challenges, employee health stations, a company 5K walk/run, and an annual health fair with biometric screenings.

“The health of our employees is very important, and VIA Thrive serves to improve their quality of life through education, activity, empowerment, and support,” said VIA President/CEO Jeffrey Arndt. “VIA Thrive goes beyond exercise and nutrition to address a range of health-related issues, and provides numerous opportunities for our VIA family to take charge of their own well-being.”
