TWO Special Workshops
#1 SWTA’s Safety Workshop - 2 days
Audience: Anyone tasked with developing a safety plan.
Overview: FTA’s priorities, pillars and policies are the focal point of this new SWTA workshop for transit providers desiring to get ahead of the regulations. Utilizing real transit examples, discussion, hands-on exercises, videos and peer-to-peer learning we will provide the foundation for understanding the Safety Management System (SMS) Approach, developing a system safety plan and creating a safety culture. You can expect real-world guidance as to what this means for a rural or small urban transit system and how to implement the safety goals of the FTA. Certificate of Completion will be provided.
#2 NTI Transit Procurement for Senior Management - 1 day
Audience: Non Procurement Managers and Transit Board Members
Overview: Tuesday’s workshop offers senior leadership a better understanding of the rationale, functions, and general process of third-party contracting for FTA grantees. Some of the themes are competence and training, teaming and partnering internally and externally, supporting advance planning of procurements, and adhering to pre-established procedures. Topics include: Principles of Procurement, The Procurement Process and Roles and Responsibilities

Call for Presentation Abstracts: 2017 SWTA Freedom Through Transit Annual Conference
Dear Transportation Professionals:
We invite you to join us at the 2017 SWTA Freedom Through Transit Annual Conference to be held February 13-15, 2017 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Conference Planning Committee is now accepting applications for proposed conference presentations. If you have a presentation you would like to share at this year’s conference, please complete the following form.
DEADLINE for submission is October 28, 2016; however, submissions will be accepted until the agenda is finalized. Priority will be given to proposed presentations that were submitted prior to the deadline.
Presentation proposals must be categorized in one of the following areas:

• HR/Human Capital
• Finance
• Performance Measures
• Technology
• Safety/Security
• Regulatory Issues:Transit Asset Management (TAM), Transportation Agency Safety Plan (TASP) and others
• Tribal Transit Issues
Presentations may be delivered in the form of panel, interactive, workshop, lecture experiences, etc. Please provide your preferred presentation style in your description.
To help maximize the number and diversity of presenters and perspectives, each individual or group of individuals is limited to three proposal submissions. Reviewers will consider your first three completed proposals as determined by time of submission. In most cases, only the two highest-ranked proposals will be selected for the conference program.
Notification of Conference Planning Committee decisions will be made by November 18, 2016.
Presenter registration fees are as follows:
• SWTA typically does not provide a stipend. If a stipend is required please indicate that in your description.
• Speakers receive a $25 discount on registration. Code provided with your confirmation to speak.
