Manager’s Corner: Best Practices for Hiring Bus Operators During a Statewide Shortage of CDL Driver
The ability of a transit system being positioned to identify and modify the traditional practices for attracting and hiring Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) bus operators is key to any public transit system. The intent of these recommendations is to provide basic guide lines, implemented by our Human Resources, which will help other systems in maintaining the fully qualified bus operators at the appropriate level, regardless of the location the system provides transit services.
The following Best Practices have been developed and implemented to assist the LATS Operations Department in meeting the required number of bus operators to provide the services expected by those individuals living and visiting our community.

ABQ Ride Celebrating its 50th Annual Luminaria Tour
For 50 years, ABQ RIDE has been making Christmastime memories with its annual Luminaria Tour. The then, newly-formed Albuquerque Transit System first began its Christmas Eve tour for city residents in 1965, to help cut down on cars going through the Country Club neighborhoods. For 50 cents, tour goers were bussed from the old City Auditorium in Downtown (where Heart Hospital now stands) to luminaria-adorned neighborhoods.
