DART: Customer Information Designer


The Customer Information Designer produces updates and coordinates changes to DART’s Customer Information, such as customer timetables and schedules, maps, how-to-ride guides and other customer information materials. The Customer Information Designer will work closely with Service Planning Scheduling department to translate technical data from Trapeze to update DART’s maps and key customer information. Prepares print and digital files to effectively communicate bus and train service schedules and wayfinding. Reports to the Senior Manager of Creative Services.

Primary Duties

  • 1. Produces technical artwork for customer information, including but not limited to printed timetables, rail schedules, maps and schedules for print and static displays at DART bus and rail facilities. 2. Develops impact list of customer information changes; works with Service Planning/Scheduling department to ensure all customer information is up-to-date and/or corrected. 3. Extracts technical data from Trapeze, utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud software to design customer information; coordinates with Service Planning/Scheduling department on service change content in timetables, rail schedules, maps and other customer information signage. 4. Designs and produces multi-page print files for collateral: brochures, system map, rail pocket guide, bus operator route guide, etc. 5. Provides design support and produces files for digital platforms (kiosk, infotainment, digital platform monitors, etc.) as needed. 6. Recommends improvements to customer information communication, including the development of techniques and software usage to improve customer schedule effectiveness and efficiency. 7. Provides additional graphic support for other projects within Creative Services/Marketing department. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills & Abilities

  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications. 1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university or technical college in Graphic Design or related field. 2. Four (4) or more years related work experience in design and print production. Prefer experience in public transit. 3. High level of proficiency on MAC utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel). 4. Portfolio of work required. 5. Valid Texas Class A, B, or C drivers license, no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles. 6. Proven track record of managing multiple projects from beginning to end, on time, by achieving results and meeting deadlines. 7. Excellent oral communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels, both inside and outside of DART. 8. Substantial interpersonal skill to effectively and sensitively communicate with all levels of supervisory and non-supervisory employees, government entities, a culturally diverse community, and others both inside and outside of DART. 9. Ability to make good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom and judgment. 10. Ability to learn quickly when facing new problems; a relentless and versatile learner, open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement. 11. Ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles. 12. Ability to build and maintain professional relationships throughout the organization, resolving difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
