VALLEY METRO: Technical Trainer (Maintenance of Way)
The Technical Trainer (Maintenance of Way) is a stand-alone position. This position is responsible for development and implementation of technical training instructions for the Light Rail Transit System that includes Track, Traction Power Signals and Communications, Fare collection equipment, related service equipment and wayside equipment. Typical duties include conducting and/or facilitating employee training, coordinating or developing training manuals, preparing and conducting competency evaluations, assessments, maintaining documentation and database of employee training, and preparing statistical reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Demands: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work Environment: Work in shop area, classroom setting or outdoors in all weather conditions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, chemicals, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions and/or intense noise levels.
This position is safety sensitive. Employment for safety-sensitive positions is contingent on passing a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post- accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow up testing.

Desired Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electronics or a closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional-level experience related to training in a Light Rail Transit System, some understanding of train control systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), traction power and signals or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed below.

- Presents training sessions by planning, coordinating and/or facilitating LRT systems employee training and development programs for new and existing staff; and administers and monitors the Maintenance Certification and Re-Certification Program.
- Assesses employee skill levels, counsels, recommends and coordinates appropriate training with employee and respective supervisors/managers; records and maintains database of employee training records and monitors and evaluates competency and performance.
- Develops and maintains training manuals, including curriculum, lesson plans, and all training materials and testing.
- Develops, implements, and revises technical training programs for all LRT systems and equipment; instructing staff in repairing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electromechanical devices, microprocessor components, and mechanical systems.
- Designs and implements effective/innovative training programs to develop skills of LRT Systems Division employees; serves as a technical resource to assist and guide employees in resolving technical equipment problems.
- Develops standards and procedures that integrate LRT Systems training and quality assurance; monitors the ongoing maintenance and repair of division and facility LRT Systems to identify training needs.
- Enters and retrieves information from the Maintenance Management Information System, (MMIS); and prepares and presents training reports to management including observations, analysis of training results; and trends and solutions.
- Works closely with Division LRT Systems Managers to determine, develop and implement training programs to improve daily operations.
- Assists in the development and creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance in relation to LRT systems operations.
- Develops, reviews, updates and maintains training programs to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and divisional performance expectations.
- Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.

Salary Range$61,014.00 to $91,521.00
