SUMMARY:

The Rail Community Relations Lead is responsible for the coordination and management of community relations activities for major capital projects, and initially would be assigned as the lead for the South Central Light Rail Extension/Downtown Hub project. This position will assist in the development of strategies and serve as a main contact for community relations on assigned projects. This position will lead the day-to-day community relations activities as well as oversee and assign tasks to team members.

This recruitment will be used to hire persons that support the development of major capital projects with dedicated funding. The duration of the employment will be contingent upon the availability of funding for those projects.

Primary Duties

  • This individual will serve as the lead for community relations activities on assigned light rail or high-capacity transit projects in development.
  • Builds tailored public involvement plans and strategies that create positive engagement with all sectors of a community and successfully navigate the unique culture and politics of a project area.
  • Serves as a liaison with internal departments, public agencies, external organizations, and/or other interested parties for Valley Metro's Community Relations Department.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with stakeholders, local government staff and private sector partners.
  • Leads day-to-day community relations activities; assigns tasks to team members and oversees completion; assists in the management of community relations budget.
  • Develops community relations and business assistance plans to support project development and based on coordination with assigned project team; employs new techniques, strategies and partnerships to innovate programs and ensure effectiveness for the local community.
  • Represents stakeholders' needs and coordinates tactics and mitigation approaches with a diverse set of partners, internal and external to Valley Metro.
  • Develops and/or supervises the execution of presentations including: •Creating PowerPoint presentations/produce handouts;
  • Designing boards, handouts, survey instruments;
  • Obtaining relevant photos/other sample graphics;
  • Creating and maintain presentations/graphics libraries
  • Compiles, analyses and/or supervises the compilation and analysis of community outreach survey results and prepares reports.
  • Ensures thorough documentation is a priority in order to catalog the work done with the community and individual stakeholders.
  • Supervise, coach and mentor community relations staff on assigned project(s).
  • Supports agency-wide volunteer and community outreach activities, including participation in events, bus and rail operations support and other initiatives.
  • Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.

Desired Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations/Affairs, Urban Planning, Marketing or a related field and four years of experience in public involvement or community involvement; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above. Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred. Night and weekend work on occasion
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License

Salary Range

   $55,468.00 to $83,201.00
