SUMMARY:

THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO HIRE PERSONS THAT SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF MAJOR CAPITAL PROJECTS WITH DEDICATED FUNDING. THE DURATION OF THE EMPLOYMENT WILL BE CONTINGENT UPON THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDING FOR THOSE PROJECTS.

The Community Relations Program Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for a community to include providing assistance and coordination between stakeholders and project planners, design engineers, construction contractors and other staff to resolve issues and, ultimately, help guide a community through project development. Typical duties include conducting public educational meetings and presentations, developing community outreach and/or business assistance plans, serving as the community’s voice within Valley Metro and documenting and coordinating mitigation of stakeholders’ concerns.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, and travel.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


Primary Duties

  • Functions as the primary point of contact for the general public and stakeholders on assigned light rail or high-capacity transit project in development.
  • Serves as a liaison with internal departments, public agencies, external organizations, and/or other interested parties for Valley Metro's Community Relations Department.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with stakeholders, local government staff and private sector partners.
  • Coordinates public involvement activities for long-term planning studies, as well as, those projects in preliminary engineering, design and/or construction.
  • Represents stakeholders' needs prior to construction activities being scheduled in front of or around property and documenting individual stakeholder concerns. Coordinates mitigation with a diverse set of partners, internal and external to Valley Metro.
  • Arranges and schedules public meetings, open houses and workshops to support project development and based on coordination with assigned project teams.
  • Organizes, facilitates, executes and documents various elements of transit-related, ad hoc groups developed by project teams as a result of community outreach efforts. (e.g. Community Working Groups and Advisory Boards).
  • Prepares a variety of presentations, project updates (print and online) and reports summarizing project activities.
  • Participates in planning, coordinating and overseeing special events and public relations activities in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, events, professional organizations, committees and other related groups to ensure Valley Metro stakeholders are represented.
  • Inputs detailed stakeholder information, including all contacts and activities, in the agency’s CRM stakeholder database on a regular basis.
  • Supports agency-wide volunteer and community outreach activities, including participation in events, bus and rail operations support and other initiatives.
  • Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.

Desired Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations/Affairs, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Marketing or a related field and 2 (two) years of experience in public involvement or community involvement; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Night and weekend work on occasion.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.

Salary Range

   $50,425.00 to $75,637.00
