CAP METRO: Director, Power Systems



Are you a power systems professional looking for an exciting opportunity with a growing organization? Capital Metro is looking for a Director to lead the day-to-day activities including charging systems, electronic systems, equipment installation, battery electric bus service support, and building and infrastructure maintenance.

This is a new position and will report to Vice President, Capital Projects. The individual will provide direction and oversight to the agency for power generation, transmission and distribution systems which will energize the agency’s battery electric bus fleet, the future light rail vehicles, and associated facilities. This individual will manage all aspects of Power related third party projects to ensure that project planning, design, implementation, and completion to meet the requirements and needs of Capital Metro, and the requirements of all the agencies, governments, special interest groups and the public to which Capital Metro is responsible. In addition, this position will direct and control the overall activities including charging systems, electronic systems, equipment installation, battery electric bus service support, and building and infrastructure maintenance for all bus charging systems.

This person will also help guide the agency as it builds two new light rail lines in Traction Power, Signal, Rail Communications, or multi-craft Rail Facility Maintenance and will provide long-term direction to the agency as it creates a power systems department.

Desired Education & Experience

  • Bachelor′s Degree in Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's Degree in a related field preferred
  • Eight (8) years of relevant management-level experience in power systems, charging infrastructure, facilities operations, maintenance in light/heavy track, traction power; one year of bus/rail transit experience in relevant area preferred; experience with computerized maintenance management information systems preferred.
  • Three (3) years demonstrated experience developing and managing staff
  • A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a two-for-one year basis.

Desired Skills & Abilities

  • Professional Engineer License may be required
  • A valid Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
